why fear?

A universal language, a language of silence, a silence that everybody understands simply- everybody- every living being that breathes... the dogs and cats so affectionately sheltered in our homes, the lions and tigers in zoos, jungles and circuses, the birds singing up the trees, the cockroaches running for darkness, the ants carving lines on barren walls, you, me!

It expresses everything anybody wants to convey- depth of affection, height of love, worry and jealousy, betrayal and hatred, hurt and revenge. We feel it in any of our emotions- "the pain". We want to convey these emotions to somebody who is responsible, or atleast that we assume are responsible and fight to pass on that pain. Once it is passed across through our revengeful acts, our pain satisfies itself and vanishes to nothing. At times, we even accept that very pain for the sake of somebody or some higher purpose that we alone define - just to prove ourself worthy of something.

Pain proves endurance- our limits;
pain proves our will- the power and strength;
pain proves our softness- the innocence;
pain proves that we are alive still!
pain - a common part of every living thing, binding all in one easy net of compassion. why then fear that pain?

Had we known the answer, DD, we wud have seen no pain...felt no pain...there would be nothing called Pain to even think about! The beauty of the situation is this....we dont know -> we know we dont know -> but we imagine we know-> and we want others to think we know!
Ultimate Tragedy!

Good one Krish, but my point was not against feeling pain, but the very fear of that pain.
Once the fear is gone, it's easy to accept it as a part of us, definitely not a pleasing one but still a part of us.

When the hell will you learn to write "Articles for dummies"..

You always seem to write some stuff which is not easily understandable...

Whatever...

I see it this way... if something is not understandable, it is for 2 reasons- either you lack knowledge on that subject or you donot want to understand it at all.
Well, in either of the cases, I cannot help! :-)

Jokes apart, thanks for ur nice comment that my writeups are not "easily" understandable... it just means you are beginning to think!

Fear of pain, is the beginning of civility. You fear pain, so you try not cause it, either to yourself(like when you iron your clothes) or to others(when you are pissed of that someone forgot your birthday)

Nice explanation CK! I was trying to get a different perspective of pain here, one that glorifies it.

You think fear of pain is that which withholds us from inflicting it to others? Ex, terrorism concept lies in achieving one's goal by verymuch dwelling on the very fear of pain of other humans! Also, when we hurt ourselves, for ex, it the fear more than the pain itself that makes us weak and react to the situation rather than handling it.

Fear's purpose is to keep you alert and avoid pain. But once you experience pain you have to handle it anyways. It doesn't matter if you feared it or not.

For Example, Fear of being mugged prevents one from venturing out alone in night. If reject the fear and go out and face a robber, you have to handle it anyway you can. Now your fear won't help you.

When you have a headache, is it the fear of pain- the agitation in your mind- or the actual pain itself that is causing you more trouble? Try finding it out sometime! :-)
